Audience theory 1:
1) Read this Mail Online article about the effects of videogames. How does this article link to the hypodermic needle model?
This article suggests that due to the violent videogames played, the students acted aggressively and more likely to assume that the world is hostile. This links to the hypodermic needle model as its suggesting that such videogames are injecting students with these emotions.
2) How does coverage of the Talk Talk hacking case (see Daily Mail front page below) link to the hypodermic needle model? Why might someone criticise this front page?
This coverage links to the hypodermic needle model as it implies that the violent videogames are corrupting and stopping the suspect from leaving his bedroom. Some may criticise this as they could be poentially viewed as bluffing about the videogames links to the teen not wanting to leave his bedroom.
3) What do you think of the hypodermic needle theory? Do audiences believe everything they see in the media?
I think the hypodermic needle theory is majorly incorrect as people nowadays know what to and what not to believe.

Two-step flow model
1) Summarise the two-step flow model. What is an opinion leader?
The two step flow model suggests that audiences are influenced by opinion leaders and that media is all powerful. An opinion leader is someone who the public view as a leader and view their opinions as important.
2) How do influencers like Zendaya fit into the two-step flow model?
People like zendaya fit in the two step flow model as she has a massive following, which makes her opinions valid to millions.
3) In your opinion, is the two-step flow theory still relevant today?
Yes, and very much so. This is because of the news`s dominance in media when it comes to showing people across the world what is going on, they control what people see and can control what people feel.
Uses and Gratifications theory
1) For each of the four categories, write about one media text (e.g. film, TV programme, newspaper etc.) that fits that particular audience use or pleasure. Make sure you explain WHY it fits the category and use images or clips to illustrate your points. The first one is done for you.
Diversion: Film - Blinded By The Light. Entertaining and offering escapism for fans of Bruce Springsteen or anyone that enjoys coming of age films or culture-clash comedies.
Personal Relationships: Film - Toy Story. Offering a look at how unique the idea of friendship is and how i can be found in any circumstance, giving people the satisfaction of knowing that characters they know and love are happy.
Personal Identity: TV show - Gogglebox. An amusing look at other peoples reactions to see either similarities or differences in reactions to pieces of media that viewers have also seen.
Surveillance: TV show - BBC News. The UK`s largest provider of world and country news, giving all the essential and non essential information someone may need.
Dependency theory
1) Do you agree that audiences have become dependent on the media? What evidence or examples can you provide to support your view?
Yes i agree that audiences have become dependent on the media. This is due to the current conflicts in the world where most coverage is coming from either the news or social media sites such as X. Without access to such media, nobody would have a clue with whats actually happening in the world.
2) How has the growth of new and digital technology in the last 15 years changed people's dependency on the media? Is this a new problem?
Yes it has changes peoples dependency on the media. 15 years ago the use of social media sites would have been sigificantly less than the current usage in this day and age. This is because as the technology has advanced, more information has been able to be distributed across the internet, enabling more people to see.
3) Reflecting on your own media use, how does your media consumption impact on your emotions? Does the media have an overall positive or negative impact on your health and wellbeing? Why?
3) Reflecting on your own media use, how does your media consumption impact on your emotions? Does the media have an overall positive or negative impact on your health and wellbeing? Why?
It really epends on what ive been looking at. there ca be occasions where i look into information about wars and after seeing whats going on i can feel angry and upset with the state of the world. Other occasions happen where ive just read a news article about maybe a lost child being reunited with their family and i can feel happy that somthing good has happened. so to give a definitive answer on if its a negative or positive impact on my health is incredible tough to determine.
