 1) Give an example from film or television that uses Todorov's narrative structure of equilibrium, disequilibrium and new equilibrium.

2) Complete the activity on page 1 of the Factsheet: find a clip on YouTube of the opening of a new TV drama series (season 1, episode 1). Embed the clip in your blog and write an analysis of the narrative markers that help establish setting, character and plot.


Opening to Invincible:
Through exposition, we are given two brutish characters outside a national landmark, through this audiences can expand upon an idea that due to their appearences and location that theyre going to be the antagonists who plan on causing destruction at such a loved place. Then with the appearence of superheroes the typical idea of Todorovs theory can be expected, the heroes fix the disequilibrium and make a new equilibrium, which summaries the rough plot for the rest of the series.

  • Overarching narrative (the serial) A longer narrative arc over a few or more episodes.
  • Mixed narrative A mix of both episodic and overarching narrative.
  • Multi-strand overlapping narrative (soap narrative) A continuous narrative which tells multiple stories at once.
8) How does the Factsheet suggest adverts use narrative?  
Through exposition and resolutions being showed at the same time to engage viewers in a quick form of story, potentially peaking interests.
